A Family of True Heroes Come to Ireland
The legacy of the 2003 Special Olympics World Games in Ireland continues. Families and athletes from around the world are still in touch with each other. One such family is the Gartons from Australia who will return to Ireland on 24th May, 2005 to reunite with the people and places that have touched their lives.
Therese Garton was a member of the Australian team that won three gold medals for gymnastics. Her dream was to bring her parents and family to Ireland to share the feelings she enjoyed with her father in the summer of 2003.
Eamonn Geraghty, a volunteer from the 2003 Games, has helped Therese realize her dream as well as heighten public awareness of disadvantaged and disabled children through financial and emotional support benefiting the Gartons, The Bubble Gum Club, Special Olympics Ireland and Disability Ireland. Further details on our Links page.
The Garton Family Project is a non profit venture. All work is done on a voluntary basis or where necessary, at a greatly subsidized cost.
“The story of the Gartons is not only unique, but incredible and inspirational”
